Wide participation in «Beyond Borders» Festival, Castellorizo

More than 300 documentaries by Greek and foreign directors – a record number for the time, after the recent pandemic – were submitted for review at the 5th «Beyond the Borders”  International Documentary Festival, which will be held in the acritic island of  Castellorizo, Greece from  on August 23rd -30th, 2020.

The Preselection Committee will examine the participations and select the documentary films that will be screened in the Festival’s Competition Program, which will be announced in early June.

This year’s preselection committee members included: the producer, writer and director John Hughes, the academics Nurdan Tekeoğlu, Nick Jones, David Green and Nikos Graikos, the directors Tasos Giapoutzis, Jean Louis Gonterre and Giorgos Mantas, the composer Nikos Platyrachos, the documentary critic Ruggero Calich, the journalists Paul Raymond and Zelia Mitsakou Stavrou and the actor and lyricist Tina Yotopoulou.   

The jury of the Festival will award the following prizes: Best History Documentary, Best Socio-political Documentary, Best Short Length Documentary- all of them are a kind courtesy of the Hellenic Parliament-, Best Greek Documentary, sponsored by Aristotle’s University of Thessaloniki and the Special Award of Mediterranean Friendship by EKOME Media.

“Beyond Borders” International Documentary Festival is rooted on the idyllic island of Castellorizo on the edge of the Aegean Sea, a place of breath-taking natural beauty and huge historical heritage.

“Beyond Borders” Festival offers European, Mediterranean and overseas audiences once a year, a collection of compelling films dealing with historical, cross-cultural events, trends and personalities that have shaped our countries, peoples and civilizations. The objective of this «boutique» documentary festival is to celebrate the excellence in cinematographic storytelling centered on History and Society. Beyond Borders is about History now and before, here and everywhere.

This one-week Festival offers the chance to celebrate culture and innovative cinematography all the while organizing a multitude of cultural side-events that appeal to island natives and visitors alike.

“Beyond Borders” is organized by the Hellenic History Foundation, in co-organization with the Region of South Aegean, Ecrans des Mondes (Paris), The Society for Restoration of Megisti, Castellorizo (Sydney), held under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad, of the Municipality of Megisti, and the Embassy of Australia in Athens, the Embassy of the U.S. in Athens and the Embassy of Israel in Athens. The main sponsors are The Hellenic Parliament, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Secretariat General for the Aegean and Island Policy, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation and EKOME Media.
